Today, the discussion centred on the importance of note-taking. I presented the following notes on this:
It is important to understand how to
take notes.
Often, we take notes on things that are
not important.
One thing to always include is the date
of your notes (e.g. Tues, Sept. 6, 2016).
You do NOT need to put down what you
know, only what you don’t know.
Write down titles, headers, main points,
and what you don’t know.
Work on shortening sentences when an idea you don't know is presented.
I then presented students with notes of introduction to the unit and their first assignment. We did not finish these notes but did cover the following in depth:
How to write a stand-alone paragraph
The goals of the unit
The activities we will do (poetry analysis, biological profile, essay)
Terms:
Constructed world
IQ (intelligence)
EQ (emotional intelligence)
We finished up at the discussion about motivation (discussed self-awareness and self-reliance).
